Georgia’s AD Greg McGarity and Oregon’s AD Rob Mullens have mutually agreed to cancel the 2015-2016 meetings between the two teams.
McGarity talked with new Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens, the former deputy athletic director at Kentucky. Oregon is preparing for a new Pac-10 schedule because of conference expansion, McGarity said.
The schools had signed a contract on March 2, 2006 that could be terminated by mutual agreement by both schools.
Georgia was to play Oregon on Sept. 5, 2015 and the Ducks would have played in Athens on Sept. 10, 2016.
“The model that we would establish in the future would have seven home games every year,” McGarity said. “If you look at the models of other schools that have played for the (BCS) championship lately, there’s always one tough nonconference game.”
Dan Hawkins speaks about CMR and the upcoming game against Georgia
“I respect Mark Richt as much as anybody in the profession,” Hawkins said. “He’s a great coach, and they’re a great program. And I don’t take a lot of stock in the fact they’ve dropped a couple of games here. They’ve battled. They had a great game against Arkansas and had a chance to win that game. You can see how good Arkansas is based off their game with Alabama. Then last week they just had things not go their way.
“You feel bad, really, for any coach. They just couldn’t get a break. You just have a play and a penalty and a play and a turnover or something like that. But they’re a great football program, and they’re a good team, and he’s a good coach. They’ll be ready to go when they get here.”
Georgia-Tennessee to be televised by the SEC Network with kickoff at 12:21pm. It’s a sad and eye-opening state of affairs when the Bulldogs and Vols are playing each other at noon.
